Time to start!

Be part of our fifth annual Homeschool Homecoming!

The reviews are in, and word is out. This dance is the perfect mix of fun and fancy and the perfect time to celebrate old friends and new. With OG Dance Caller LORI BORRE and DJ IMAN TUCKER, this is THE event of the year.

Homecoming is a time to kick off the year, the first opportunity for seniors to get to be seniors and freshmen to spread their new wings. It's a time for recent alumni to reconnect with their old friends and share fond memories. It's a time to celebrate our athletes, our artists, and our scholars (basically all of you).

Homeschooling sometimes means saying no to things that don't honor the vision, but it also means saying yes to the very best. This dance is the very best. Every moment has been curated and beautifully marry the best of the past with the best of the present.  It is so amazing that you will regret it if you miss it, and so wholesome that your parents actually want you to go!

When you homeschool, you're automatically the valedictorian. Well, at Homeschool Homecoming, everyone is a Homecoming King or Queen, and students cheer each other on and straighten each other's crowns. Don't miss this opportunity to get dressed up, step into a dreamy world, and create the memories of a lifetime.

Home is where it all begins.

 Welcome home!

The Crew

Lori Borre

She's the caller who makes it all look easy. Lori Borre can orchestrate a thousand dancers while making sure everyone "gets it" and has a blast doing it. When her 4th grade classroom was hauled into the gymnasium to learn The Virginia Reel, Lori was hooked. Thus sparked a love of dance and in particular, community dance. Over a dozen years ago, she began to call dances large and small. A favorite and oft-requested caller at proms, galas, weddings, barn dances, backyard soirees, and of course our own Homecoming, Lori's lifetime of music and dance training and unique expertise allows her to make the difficult easy, leaving no dancer behind. She knows she has succeeded when everyone forgets what their feet are doing and just has a blast on the dance floor.

DJ IMAN

The perfect "zag" to our traditional dance "zig", he's the DJ that needs no introduction. The one who is famous in his own right. The one who "shows UP" and brings the whole room together, DJ IMAN is again in the house! Based out of Indianapolis, IN, Iman “IMN. TCKR” Tucker began his DJ journey back in 2016. Since then, he has performed on behalf of the some of the world’s biggest brands; NBA, NFL, Nike, concerts, and some of the largest faith-based events. Tucker describes his style as a blend between “you never know what you’re going to get” and “music that you can feel in your soul.” He often says, it’s not about me, it’s how I make my valued guest feel.

William Borre

Producing professional photos that bring memories to  life is a seemingly small thing that makes all the difference. William Borre, aka "The Candid Machine, " makes it happen. At a young age, he found himself at home behind the lens of a camera, so he struck out on his own as a photographer, dedicated to capturing the moments that often get missed. A homeschool graduate himself, William combines his keen eye and love of dance to be at just the right place at the right time. No matter what the event, you'll know William has been there when you see the results.

THIS IS FOR OUR 2025 HOCO. 2026 HOCO WILL BE SIMILAR BUT HAS NOT YET BEEN UPDATED.

  • Dancing and Dance Lessons

    Q: When are dance lessons?

A: Our fourth and final dance practice is on Monday, October 20, at College Park Ministry Center, 3600 W 96th St, Indianapolis, IN 46268, from 8:30 - 10:30 am. This is a free practice, and will be held outdoors.  A waiver, however, is required. A waiver link has been emailed. There are no bathrooms so plan accordingly. Bring your own water/beverages.

Our second and third dance practices were at College Park Ministry Center on Monday, October 13, from 5:00-7:00 pm, and Saturday, October 18, 8:30 - 10: 30 am. These were free practices.

Our first dance practice was Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Trailview Church, 1530 Riley Road, Lebanon, IN 46052, from 7 - 9 pm. This was a free practice.

Stay tuned for additional practices. They'll be posted on Instagram and via email.

Dance practices are free or a nominal charge based on our obligations to the facility.

If you have access to a venue in your area and want to host a practice session, let us know! We love to customize the practices for you and your friends.

Lessons include but are not limited to:

    - Several of the traditional set dances like Waves of Tory, Ship's Cook, Boston Tea Party, Postie's Jig, and the Virginia Reel!

    - Several line dances like Church Clap, Cotton Eye Joe, Shim Sham, and Cha Cha Slide.

Follow us on Instagram @stepsintimeevents for other dance opportunities. We're typically calling several barn dances in the fall.

Q: Why dance lessons? Is it so complicated? A: No! We explain the vast majority of our dances at the actual dance, so anyone can do them with no practice at all.

    Q: Then why practice sessions?

A: Well first of all, it's just an excuse to get together and have a bunch of fun.

Also, some of the dances will not be explained because most of the kids know them already or they are easy to learn at home like line dances.  IYKYK dances like the Shim Sham and Postie's Jig are too complex to instruct on-the-fly.

The Postie's Jig is a HUGE favorite, requested nearly every dance, but impossible to teach from a stage. Once you "get it", you will join the elite Postie's fan club and may even decide to dance this at your wedding! So if you want to be one of the few, the proud, the jubilant, come to a practice session or two!

But don't worry if you don't know it. No big deal! Just dance something else or take a 5 minute break for some soda.

The same goes for the Shim Sham. For most, it will be just another swing dance. But for those who know, it will be a chance to participate in a nearly 100 year old swing tradition.

One of the things that makes our Homecoming dance so amazing, so different, and so fun is our dancing. At some dances, students stand around, afraid to dance or move. Not at this dance! Here, kids actually come to ... dance (and make new friends)! With the one-two punch of Lori and Iman, most kids dance every dance!

Our skilled caller helps even first-timers feel comfortable and confident.  Having said that, if you want to be sure you've got a handle on things, you have two options.

When you purchase your ticket, you will receive a link to view many of the traditional dances. These are easy to de-construct and learn! Also, we are planning dance lessons for you to attend. That way, when you finally hit the dance floor, you'll know that you know that you know what to do!

Q: Do I have to have a ticket to Homecoming to attend dance lessons?

A: NO! Everyone is welcome to attend dance lessons! They are almost as fun as the Homecoming itself.

Lessons are offered for free or a nominal charge based upon our obligations to the facility.

Eligibility for lessons is the same as for the dance.

  • "Reliving the 20s- a Century Later"

Get ready to travel back a century ago to an era of jazz, glitz, and glamour!

Perhaps you'll bring the Gatsby Glitz or the Flapper vibe? Maybe even a little It's a Wonderful Life spirit!

Of course, regular Homecoming wear will also be very popular and fit right in! Make as much of this theme as you want, just have fun, and don't miss out!

  • What is the evening schedule?

SIX O'CLOCK (6:00-6:30) ~ Check-in time at the red carpet and step and repeat at street level outside the historic IRT building in downtown, Indianapolis. Snap pictures and chat with friends and family!

HALF PAST SIX (6:30) ~ Elevators open to head upstairs and find your table, mingle, enjoy a mocktail, or visit the photo booth where everyone is a Homecoming King or Queen!

SEVEN O'CLOCK Welcome and Grace, then  Dinner is served, as only The Roof can. Get your phones ready to capture the moment!

JUST AFTER DINNER (7:50 - 8 PM) IMAN DROPS THE BEAT.

8:00 PM - Midnight The fun continues with the perfect mix of modern and traditional dancing, expertly called by Lori Borre, along with line dances, a Swing Snowball, and a few new tricks we've got up our sleeves!

JUST BEFORE MIDNIGHT  "What a Wonderful World" signals the end of the evening.

After you snag your ticket, you will receive a link to several of the dances so you can familiarize yourself. By the time you step on the dance floor, you will likely already know what to do!

  • Who is eligible to attend?

This dance is designed to serve homeschool high school students and homeschool alumni ages 14-20* along with students who attend non-traditional private schools (and their friends.) So for example, if you are enrolled in 9th grade or higher for the 2025-2026 school year or attending a 2-3 day virtual school or university classes or a small Christian private school that cannot manage to have a dance, this means YOU!

Eligible attendees may purchase up to one additional ticket for a guest who may not be homeschooled. These guests are in for a treat, as they typically have no idea how much fun homeschoolers are!

*Ages as of October 23, 2025.

Q: I have a 13 or year old who is enrolled in 9th grade. Can they attend?

A: It is obviously impossible for us to card attendees, so we leave this to your discretion. If your freshman is mature enough to attend, and you are happy, then we are happy.

  • How does check-in work?

When you purchase your ticket, you'll receive a bar  code for us to scan. Bring this with as this will be our principal way to check people in. As you're checked in, you'll receive a bracelet to wear for the evening that confirms your check in.

  • Our Valued Sponsors

We're so grateful for our valued sponsors, who caught the vision with us to produce the best, most wholesome Homecoming dance in the midwest!

  • Venue location

The fourth annual Homeschool Homecoming is at the opulent Indiana Roof, located at 140 West Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204.

The Indiana Roof Ballroom is a historic dance and event venue renowned for its 1927 design that mimics a romantic European village courtyard. Over its nearly century-long history, it has been a premier destination for big-band dances, galas, and other events. This is timeless elegance at its best.

    Sitting with friends/Tables

Can I sit with my friends?

Of course! Tickets purchased at the same time will automatically be seated together unless otherwise requested.

When purchasing tickets there is a question for attendees asking if they would like to be seated with anyone else. We intend to honor these requests.

Because we know you don't always know who else is going when you get your tickets, we will be opening table assignment requests at the end of September to give you time and space to gather your friends. More information on this will be shared via email.

  • Parents and Chaperones

    A note to our parents:

Homeschooling is an enormous commitment that you make to excellence and this evening would not have happened without you. We get it. We're parents too.  Thank you for partnering with us to create a safe, memorable evening for your son or daughter.

We know this is a special moment for you too, and we have designed the red carpet experience with that in mind. If your child is arriving in a limousine, be sure to be there to snap the perfect picture of him or her exiting the limo! Join them at the banner for a quick photo so you can remember the moments.

Also, please make plans to join us on the upper level of the ballroom at 11:20 to observe the festivities!

Regarding Chaperones: Our vetted chaperones have specific jobs and are prepared to look after your child's experience. We have approx. 1 chaperone for every 10 to 15 students.  Jobs include:

    • Dance instruction help when needed
    • Reminders for dress code and code of conduct
    • Monitoring exits and entrances
    • Any help any student needs

    Q: Can I be a chaperone?

A: We are always interested in those who have a heart to serve. Please email us if you are interested.

  • Parking & Hotels

There are plenty of parking spots in downtown Indianapolis near the Indiana Roof.  Pretty much all are paid spots so car pool accordingly.

There are a number of hotels downtown. The closest is the Embassy Suites by Hilton Indianapolis Downtown just east of the Indiana Roof.

  • FAQs

Q: I have a 13 or 14 year old who is enrolled in 9th grade. Can they attend?

A: It is obviously impossible for us to card attendees, so we leave this to your discretion. If your freshman is mature enough to attend, and you are happy, then we are happy.

Q: Why are you limiting the number of tickets?

A: Good question! We are committed to the elegant, opulent feel of the evening. We could certainly entertain more people, but with that comes crowding, people stepping on and ripping gowns, feeling disconnected, and general overall frustration.

Q: How do I request table assignments?

A: All attendees on the same order will automatically be seated together. Additionally, there is a question addressing who you would like to be seated with for each attendee during the checkout process. Several weeks out we will reach out with further information for requests.

Q: Will you look at my dress before-hand and help me determine if it will meet the attire guidelines?

A: Of course we would be happy to help you! Email us a photograph of you in your ensemble from the front, back, and side, and we will help make sure your ensemble is perfect!
