Families don’t choose homeschooling because they want to settle for less—they choose it because they want something better. That’s why parents and students are excited when they discover our milestone dances, and why they tell others about them.

Steps in Time, a registered 501(c)(3), proves once again that homeschoolers don’t “miss out.” Instead, they get some of the best experiences available—classic high‑school dances done in a way most public‑ and private‑school students never get to enjoy.

A Culture‑Building Experience

Students arrive dressed up and ready for a special night. They get to practice etiquette and enjoy an environment completely different from typical dances, which often feel like no more than a loud party with girls clustered on one side, boys on the other, heavy with dating pressure.

Our dances create a positive Christian atmosphere where students meet new people, enjoy dancing, and spend time with friends in a wholesome setting.

Our goal is simple: to create the best high school dance experience in the country—maybe even anywhere—and we don’t compromise on that vision.

Heritage Dancing, Done Right

These aren’t just “traditional dances.” You'll feel the difference in the way we teach and run them.  Nearly every student participates because it's more fun than they could have imagined. And yes—Mrs. Borre is the caller.

Modern Dance with THE DJ Iman Tucker

If you've never seen him in action, you are in for an epic treat. He's the kids' favorite, a fellow Christian, and he does more than just play music. He immerses himself with the students and electrifies the crowd, creating memories that last. There is truly no one like him, and it shows.

The Indiana Roof Ballroom "the most danceable floor in the world" due to its unique "floating floor" construction, which inlcudes a layer of felt and rubber, so feet don't get as tired.

Heritage dancing, done best, requires four things, and we know of no other venue in the world that fits what we do so perfectly.

1. a wooden floor (not carpet)
2. a circular layout (not L-shaped or rectangular)
3. a stage with just the right height so the caller and DJ can see the crowd, but not so high they feel disengaged
4. a LOT of space. Too many dancers packed in a space creates confusion and frustration

This is also why we refuse to oversell or consider a different venue. Sure, we could pack in a few hundred more students, but we won't. "Is it at the Roof? We would pay more for that." Yes, it is at the Roof, but no, you don't have to pay more for that.

Two Major Dances Each Year, each with its unique purpose and vibe.

Homecoming

More than a school dance—it’s a reunion. Students and recent alumni from different co‑ops and sports leagues come together to kick off the year and celebrate sporting and academic accomplishments. They may compete during the year, but on the dance floor they’re simply friends.

Homecoming is lively from the moment students arrive. It’s slightly less formal than Prom and includes a stationed meal so students have more time to dance and mingle. Each year has a decade‑themed style (like the 1920s or 1940s), letting students experience history while having fun. Heritage dances are high-octane and full of musical surprises. It’s the joyful start to the year.

Prom

Prom is the grand finale—a night to celebrate the year and honor the seniors and their parents who made it possible, as they step into the next chapter, surrounded by younger students and recent alumni to cheer them on. . It’s a formal, Black-tie, opulent event that many students will never experience anywhere else.

Students experience a full three‑course sit down dinner served by suited waiters, choreographed to “Be Our Guest,” something only the Indiana Roof Ballroom can deliver.

Prom themes are magical and dreamy --Fairytale Ball, Masquerade Ball, and now the Regency Ball inspired by Jane Austen. The evening begins with the Grand Polonaise from Poland, followed by graceful heritage dances that progress to crowd favorites. By the end of the night, electricity has taken over and the students are cutting loose as the night peaks.  It truly earns the name “The Enchanted Prom.”
