Of Balls, Beginnings, and Other Necessary Arrangements
To Those Who Delight in Society,
July in the Year of OurLord 2024, a small committee of rather dangerously inclined, yet otherwise respectable persons, trusted advisers, and a handful of youthful conspirators, sat themselves down and determined that a ball must be had. Not just any ball. It was to be THE Ball of the Season.
The scheme, as it was then laid, was not for a single evening, but for several seasons:
A Fairytale Ball 2025
A Masquerade Ball 2026
A Regency Ball 2027
And thereafter, as in a well-rehearsed figure of the dance, the sequence was to begin again.
The first evening was then engaged at The Cyrus Place. Handsome. Sold out. Nearly one hundred young persons in attendance. Spring, 2025.
Then, in the latter part of 2025, there arrived in the post an urgent communication from a most agitated homeschooling mother, whose athletes had been scheduled to attend their prom assembly at precisely the same hour as their national championships. Some forty or perhaps more homeschooled athletes were consequently to be deprived of a Ball altogether. This, naturally, was deemed unacceptable. The Cyrus Place would not accommodate the demand. And so,
The terms were plainly agreed upon: Twenty families, one hundred dollars apiece, remitted that very week. If so, The Roof would be secured and the DJ engaged. The matter was to proceed without delay.
They did. Therefore, we did.
By August 2025, the Masquerade Ball had been officially entered upon the calendar, for no more mysterious reason than this: the young people required an evening which did not collide with a championship.
And so, as you settle your social calendars for the seasons ahead, take up your pen and mark the following:
April 29, 2027, A Regency Ball
April 2028 A Fairytale Ball
April 2029 A Masquerade Ball
You may, in time, become accustomed to how things are done around here -- Properly. Decently and in order.
And should you be contemplating a soiree of your own, you may now make the arrangements for your themes accordingly.

Until that long-awaited evening arrives, let last year’s photographs provide both entertainment and inspiration. One cannot begin too soon in considering the attire befitting such a distinguished assembly.
